Description
The Golden Sex Link is our best brown egg layer. This particular strain has been used over 40 years commercially in many countries including the U.S. They are a cross of a Production Rhode Island Red and Rhode Island White, with some White Rock lineage. They have exceptional feed conversion and reach egg laying maturity earlier than most breeds at 18 weeks of age. Due to their high production they tend to slow down early after only about 2 years, and also live a shorter life on average of only 4 to 5 years. They tolerate confinement but really excel free range making them great foragers. These birds are friendly and curious, cold hardy, and adapt well to heat. Chicks are color sexed meaning that at a day old the gender can be determined with almost 100% accuracy. Male chicks are usually solid yellow sometimes having a very light dusty brown stripe on the head and/or back. Female chicks are a solid golden brown or golden brown/yellow with a very defined stripe down the backside.
