Description
Guineas are excellent foragers, eating many kinds of insects and weeds. They are exceptional in gardens as they will leave all your crops alone. Many enjoy their all dark, tender meat. Make sure to butcher them on time or they may taste like leather. They are also great watchdogs; they will alert you when strangers or unwanted predators approach. Being very noisy all the time they are not recommend being kept in areas where they will receive complaints. The Pearl Grey is the most common guinea. They are all temperature weather hardy and can be found perching in trees at night. They mature at 16 weeks and lay most of their eggs randomly on the ground. Eggs take 26 to 28 days to hatch. Adults are almost impossible to differentiate other than males have slightly larger waddles and sometimes a larger horn. Guineas can be kept on their own or in community flocks with chickens, turkeys and/or ducks. However, Guinea also need a higher protein feed, we use 28%. In community flocks you can feed the higher protein feed to all birds.
