Description
The Orpington was originally created in the 1800s in England. However, it wasn’t until the 1990s through extensive cross breeding that the Lavender variety was solidified in the Orpington lineage. The hens are known to be large, docile and great brooding mothers. The Lavender is very cold hardy but can decline in extreme heat. They need shade coverage in the hotter months of the year. Overall, they are an excellent backyard breed for the whole family. Chicks are a light lavender/gray blue color sometimes with yellow underbellies.
