Description
Black Sex Links are in our top 5 best brown egg layers. They are a cross between a Rhode Island Red and a Barred Rock. They are active, gentle birds that are all temperature weather hardy. However, it is recommended that they have shade coverage in the hot months of the year. Able to adapt to all living environments they are good in confinement or free range with good foraging capabilities. Hens can either be solid black or have varying degrees of red/brown bleed through in their neck. Roosters are much alike to the Barred Rock with streaks of brown throughout. Chicks are color sexed meaning that at a day-old gender can be determined with almost 100% accuracy. Male chicks are very similar to a Barred Rock being black and also inheriting the white dot or splotch on their head, sometimes with brown in the face. Female chicks are either solid black or have red/brown in their face as well.
