Description
It is believed that all domestic ducks except for the Muscovy are derived from the wild Mallard. They are a small flying duck that make good mothers, hatching and raising 1-2 batches of ducklings a year. They will start flying at about 10 weeks and take flight regularly by 16 weeks. Because of their ability to fly they are great for hunting training, but we do not recommend them as pets unless you have a fully enclosed enclosure or clip one or both wings. It takes 14-16 weeks for the male mallards’ head to turn green and fill in their distinguishing coloring.
