Description
Known as the “fluffy” chicken Cochins give off a grander appearance than their actual size. Originating in 1800s China, these feather legged birds make excellent backyard pets. They are easily tamed, friendly, and excel at being a broody mother. Some roosters can be described as “feisty” in nature. They perform poorly in all extreme weather conditions. When they are wet, they are highly susceptible to frostbite. Petroleum jelly is a great preventative. Due to their dense feathering, they are prone to overheat so shade is a must. Egg laying efficiency varies between color varieties. Partridge Cochins are fair layers for their class.
