Description
Welsummer are friendly, docile, as well as excellent foragers. Able to live in confinement as well as free range, they are all temperature weather hardy. Hens are a partridge style color, while roosters are darker with a rustic red-orange saddle on their back. Chicks can be sexed at a day old by the definition of stripe near their eye. All chicks are light brown, yellow bellied, with a large dark brown stripe down the head and back. They also have two white stripes on both sides of the brown down the back and yellow legs. Female chicks have a dark defined line near their eye as well as typically more defined striping down the back. Male chicks have a faint stripe near the eye and typically have less defined striping on the backside.
