Description
The Welsummer is a cold hardy bird of Holland descent, bred in the the early 1900s. The hens are partridge type coloring, while the roosters are darker with a rustic red-orange saddle on a their back. They lay a darker brown egg with some speckled pigments in the shell. Welsummers are a good breed to have around the yard. They are friendly, docile, and excellent foragers. The hens average 6 lbs. while the roosters will average 7 lbs.
