Description
Cornish Cross are the primary bird for meat production. The Cornish Cross started from a pure line of White Plymouth Rocks and have been bred to grow twice as fast and twice as large, on half the feed as a broiler did 70 years ago. To insure you the best meat bird available, all our White Cornish hatching eggs come from large commercial farms in Arkansas either being of the Ross or Cobb strains. These birds can be butchered as early as 6 weeks. We recommend you butcher them at 8 to 12 weeks of age for best results. If allowed to live beyond 12 weeks, they are highly susceptible to heart attacks, broken legs due to weight, and other illness. After the first week of life, you will need to ration feed to only 12 hours a day. If allowed feed access all day Cornish can overeat and die. Allow access to water 24/7. We do not recommend you raise these birds with layers as they will double in size every week of their life. Cornish also must be artificially inseminated to reproduce, they cannot naturally. Chicks are solid yellow with yellow/tan legs.
